Biography[]

Josh Gates is an American television presenter, producer, and author. He is currently the host and executive producer on the Travel Channel's Expedition Unknown.

Having travelled to more than 100 countries, Gates is an adventurer and avid explorer with a unique brand of humour and a deep-rooted passion for off-the-map excursions that take him in search of the world's most enduring legends.

An avid scuba diver and photographer, Gates has participated in the University of Maryland's archaeological excavations of Caesarea Maritima in Israel, and his wanderlust has taken him from sweltering African deserts to the icy shores of Antarctica. He has scaled "the roof of Africa" on Mount Kilimanjaro and climbed Aconcagua, the tallest mountain in the Americas.

Gates holds degrees in archaeology and drama from Tufts University and has been inducted into the Explorers Club - a prestigious organization dedicated to the advancement of exploration and field research.

He has previously served as host and co-executive producer of the SyFy Channel series Destination Truth.

His travels are chronicled in his best-selling book, Destination Truth: Memoirs of a Monster Hunter (Simon & Schuster, 2011).
